It's still the number one topic in the hall around my colleges, to be honest it's killing a lot of dealers I know. It's not as if the cars are flying away and with even smaller margins, well you know.

I have a couple of friends whom specialise and I buy for them, they give giddy prices to satisfy their particulate habits, but even they are struggling to buy.

I will do a tread on an event from earlier this week, but we had some 'civilian dealing's with an Evans Halshaw dealer (it didn't go well:D) the item in question was 12k and they had £300 across it plus admin etc, trying to do a sort of 'Trade Centre for the public' type thing, 30 day warranty and FA prep', including the two bald tyres. They are working on a numbers game and told us they were doing 200 a month across the two (?) sites, could be bullshit as the DP and his sales team were.....well you know, very pointy shoes 'n silicon suits.

Now, if this is half true, and the big boys are trying this on, there is something sour about this business.

Sad when such an old brand tries to do an 'AutoQuake'

    Remember them?

N18 is the newer BMW engine fitted to cooper s after 2010 and JCW 2012

The previous N14 peugeot is the one to look for timing chain rattles and coked up bits.

If well maintained an N14 will last as well as the next engine, its just lack of oil changes and general poor maintenence that kills these

We sell em all day long - but we are very selective about what we buy and will only get an assured car form BCA unless my tech is at the block with me to listen - however a timing chain change isn't that big or expensive a job, its when its not done that the issues arise....

Also could be a Vanos unit as these stick

    Or HPFP

    Expensive part, easy fit

I was hoping you would reply :)

Lets be honest, low fuel pressure and a misfire does point ot the HPFP rather than those other things.

Just not sure I am brave enough.

That said a lot of those HPFP's seem to be sold on eBay and plenty of forum threads point to them

  3. Several N18 engined Mini Cooper S in the catalogues recently with the following fault codes.

Am I right that a High Pressure Fuel pump should fix them?

    P0087 - Fuel rail/system pressure

    P0300 - Misfire-more than one cylinder

P0304 - Misfiring on one or more cylinders

P0302 - Misfiring on one or more cylinders

  4. This tidy P/X thats too good to auction away :  2006 Focus 1.4 Petrol idles evenly but surges / accelerates by itself whilst driving.

Common sense suggests sticking throttle body, but surely that would cause a high / low idle.

Google suggests 100s of things, anyone on here able to put a finer point on things ?

    Cheers

Bet it's madder than ever as everyone second guesses that everyone else can't be arsed and makes a superhuman effort themselves to get there....

Typically everyone overcompensates with heroic online bidding.

Eh? I guess there’ll also be some interest to pay out of the £300 mark-up. Why the f*** are traders working on them sort of margins?

Because these larger companies only care about revenue in order to service their debt and stay open.

They probably still do ok because of the quantity they move after finance kickbacks and PX margin.

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum and wanted to say hello and ask for an advice. We have only been in the trade for over 2 years but for the last 6 month now we had extreme "Sahara desert" quiet period:D. Calls and emails we get are just ridiculous its either £1000 discount people want or they are not happy with their part ex prices, they want basically retail prices for their cars. I dont know if its our prices, our images, our description or i dont know. We have 5* reviews, we do warranties, we do finance and we have moved into brand new indoor showroom that will be finished at the end of this week. We will retake all of our images at the new showroom this weekend, i really hope it will somehow bring more customers. Here is our website www.randkautohouseltd.co.uk any advice of what you think would be much appreciated.

    Have things improved ?

The initial assessment nothing. Typically, a no-win no-fee arrangement is the way your claim will be operated. Should your claim go forward all details will be explained to you upfront. It will, of course, be subject to Terms & Conditions.

  9. Not sure now, but some of these rough places were great to buy at some point when main dealers used to offload because a lot of the regulars don't acually buy, its more of a social club for them and there is little competition for stuff over £2k.
