Is it just me, or does everyone hate these. We had 5 premium hatches on test yesterday and it was a welcome change to get into the new V40 and find a real parking brake. My father in law finds the electric ones impossible to fathom out ( is it on or off, etc), he's 73, but he's ex trade, so should know better ! Manufacturers claim its to help people who don't have the strength to put manual ones on, but if they can't do that, should they really be driving. I now find out that these units are VERY prone to failure, water getting into the seals and shagging the motors. Given that they are £700 a corner, this isn't good news ! I have a mate with an off road vehicle from a well known manufacturer of "go anywhere" vehicles. He uses it for on road and a little very light and occasional green laneing. Its gone through 3 of these in the last 18 months. His local franchise told him not to use it off road !

Talking to a fellow motor dealer earlier and we got talking about motivation! Well lack of to be honest, He is struggling to get the sales staff buzzing! I bounced a few ideas with him some he’s’ tried and lots that don’t do anything! What do you use to keep your staff motivated, performing at their best, offer world class service to customers and make some money at the same time for themselves and the dealer.

I would first look at each staff personnel record, then look at their values assessment? Have they done this and created a values pyramid for each staff? Humans work differently and are not always coin operated. Once you know your staff's values you will get the best from them, i often look through ours and have them in my draw next to me at all times, this works very well also when having to disipline staff as you can relate to their values. Also it is as simple as asking how they are today? And key questioning, "can i do anything to help you achieve ...... ?" Have you set goals with staff for the year, i know one of our technicins is working for a new caravan, the apprentice wants a Swift Sport, a painter wants a baby (can't help him though) Understand your staffs needs and wants, same as selling a car

This years Used Car awards has a new category. Dealer's dealer of the year. A chance for a dealer to get a bit of recognition from within the industry. We need your votes. Who have you dealt with this year that stood out, maybe you buy stock from them, or sell stock to them. Maybe they have put business your way, or are just a damned good role model within the industry. Feel free to openly discuss here or vote in confidence here ... https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/usedcarnominations13
